D.A. WEIBRING

Golfer, designer and businessman Donald Albert (D.A.) Weibring is the founder and chairman of Weibring-Wolfard Golf Design and a full-time player on the PGA Champions Tour.
With more than 80 projects to his credit worldwide, Weibring has designed, renovated and master planned golf courses in the U.S. and internationally, from private country clubs to PGA TOUR venues, from municipal courses to resort courses. In 2002, Avid Golfer voted Weibring “Best Golf Course Architect.”
Weibring utilizes the knowledge he has gained from his 35 years on the PGA Tour and as a current player on the Champions Tour playing the world’s finest courses. Weibring has 11 Tour victories worldwide including overseas wins at the 1985 Golf Digest/Polaroid Club in Japan and Shell-Air New Zealand Open. In 2003, Weibring joined the PGA Champions Tour. His victories after age 50 include the SAS Championship in Raleigh, N.C. and three other tournaments.
A benefit of playing great golf courses each week is that every round becomes a research lab for Weibring-Wolfard Golf Design. “A golf course should talk to you,” is what D.A. likes to say. And perhaps that is what it is all about: A Weibring-Wolfard design talks to you.
D.A.’s success as a golfer, designer and businessman, combined with his personable communication skills have made D.A. a favorite with everyone from board members to the rank and file. In 2001, Avid Golfer magazine named Weibring as one of the “10 most powerful people in Metroplex golf”; and he was inducted into the Illinois PGA Hall of Fame that same year. Other notable PGA achievements include “PGA Tour Comeback Player of the Year” in 1991. The Weibring Golf Club at Illinois State University is named in his honor.
Mentored by Byron Nelson in both golf and golf course design, D.A. has made it his mission to give back to the game as both player and designer. In fact, over the course of his career, he played in 22 Byron Nelson Championships and then returned to completely redesign the course in the name of his mentor, Byron Nelson, in 2007. Weibring has spent 25 years volunteering for numerous charities including founding and hosting the Junior Golf Clinic at the GTE Byron Nelson Classic, as well as playing an active role in A.R.C. of Quincy, Illinois State University, North Texas PGA and First Tee of Great River. He was the 2005 recipient of The First Tee Founders Award.
Weibring is an Illinois native and resides in Frisco, Texas. He holds a degree from Illinois State University.

Weibring-Wolfard Golf Design has created resort, daily-fee and private courses world-wide, including two PGA Tour venues. We achieve success by considering every aspect of the golf course design or golf course renovation project—its creativity, its playability, its impact on the environment and its economic viability. It’s this 360-degree approach to form and function that Weibring-Wolfard brings to every award-winning new course or renovation design. The Dallas-based firm, which was established in 1987, is led by PGA Tour professional D.A. Weibring and acclaimed golf course architect Steve Wolfard. Weibring-Wolfard Golf Design is a division of Golf Resources, Inc.
