CASE STUDY: ROYAL OAKS COUNTRY CLUB, DALLAS, TEXAS
The Royal Oaks Country Club course was in need of renovation - serious irrigation and drainage issues were forcing lengthy course closures and affecting the turf quality. A poorly located pump station and significant creek erosion paired with a need to update the bunkers and add yardage, left the club with a decision to make.
Royal Oaks hired Weibring-Wolfard Golf Design to develop an initial recommended master plan and then renovate the course. Utilizing their extensive experience with drainage and flooding issues, the team created an irrigation lake as a feature of the golf course, relocated the pump station and installed a transfer and filtration water source delivery system. They also worked with an engineer to stabilize the creek bank erosion. This work reduced the impact of flooding and allowed for better turf quality by reduction of silt accumulation in play areas.
As a result of the Weibring-Wolfard team’s knowledge and hands-on approach, Royal Oaks has seen a steady increase in initiation fees and membership since the renovation, as well as an elevated club image. In fact, Royal Oaks was voted best Dallas/Fort Worth country club by a local golf magazine.
“Due to the scope of work by Weibring-Wolfard Golf Design, our country club has once again become a showplace instead of a tired flat golf course. Their innovations in drainage design have given us not only excellent turf to play on, but many more days to play.”
